Expression of Interest : Judging Panels

We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to add to our judging panels both full time and relief.

If you’ve ever been interested, now is the time to put up your hand!

Please submit your expression of interest with your Performing Arts CV to our Secretary, Mark Spencer via our website

https://www.musictheatreguildvic.org/home-store/contact-us/

If you know someone that would be a brilliant judge for the MTGV, please share this with them!
Did you know?

  • Both the open and junior judging panels follow a set of guidelines and criteria set out by the Music Theatre Guild in regard to nomination and commendations. The panels attend a training session with our Judges Administrator and committee as well as meeting four times a year to calibrate and begin the process of collating the nomination and commendation list from these meetings.
  • There are five full time panel members. On some occasions, the entire complement of the panel may not be able to attend a production. We have a bank of relief judges who will attend on the panels’ behalf.
  • For the 2023 season =
The Open Panel saw 58 individual productions. This included 24 regional shows and 34 metropolitan shows, with judges travelling as far as Warrnambool, Horsham, Traralgon, Echuca, and Albury.
The Junior Panel attended 14 shows by youth companies and 38 productions presented by schools. This equalled 45 metropolitan shows and 7 regional shows, and travelled as far as Ballarat, Bendigo, and Albury for productions.
  • Music Theatre Guild Victoria Judges are not permitted to participate in the discussion of a show with which they, their partner, or immediate family have been associated or any other productions of a show they’ve been associated with in the same year. Judges are not eligible to be a recipient of an Award within their panel.

Musical Director: Peter Verhagen

Host Company: Latrobe Theatre Company

Award Nominations:
Edith Harrhy & Musician’s Award

Each year, the MTGV has the opportunity to present two additional awards, other than those within the regular categories.

They are the Edith Harrhy Award and a Musicians Award.

These two awards are given by the Committee, not by the members of the judging panel, and are selected from nominations received from our member companies.

Accordingly, the Committee is inviting you, our members, to put forward any person who fulfils the appropriate criteria and are therefore worthy of consideration by the Guild.

Please give this matter some serious thought and send your nomination, together with supporting information regarding their experience and services, to [email protected] by FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2023

All nominations will then be considered by the committee.

EDITH HARRHY AWARD:

For Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre There are numerous people associated with musical theatre who have given their expertise, time and energy to the promotion and advancement of the art form as well as assisting many others to further their artistic careers or simply to gain enjoyment from it. Edith Harrhy devoted a great deal of her life doing just that. She died in 1975 and this award is in acknowledgement of her outstanding musical life.
The award is for outstanding contribution to musical theatre (contributed in an honorary capacity) and is not necessarily awarded each year.

MUSICIANS AWARD:
This award was instigated in 1991 and acknowledges the musicians whose dedication is paramount and essential to the productions staged by music theatre companies. Whilst their services often do not come freely, they supply their talent and expertise at a reduced rate without which companies virtually could not operate. The all-important rehearsal pianist is normally recruited from amongst their ranks.
The award is not granted in recognition of any particular performance but acknowledges the recipient’s years of service or expertise and is not necessarily awarded each year.

Award Night Acknowledgements

During the 2023 Award Ceremony we would like to make the following acknowledgements

We wish to acknowledge any Life Members who have been appointed by our member companies over the last year and ask for you to send images of these significant members. Please send an image with the person’s name and the member company they have received life membership with.
